What Every SYOGM Client Must Know About Maintenance & Wear Parts
By Jean Louis, Start Your Own Gold Mine
Hey there, future gold miner.
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already seen one of our programs — The Hard Rock Express Program, The Basic Start Your Own Gold Mine Program, or The Full Start Your Own Gold Mine Program. You know the equipment you’re getting. You know the gold recovery potential. You know the training and support I personally provide.
But there’s one thing I want to make crystal clear before you commit a single dollar.
You are responsible for operating expenses and ongoing maintenance.
Let me explain this plainly, in my own words, the same way I would tell you sitting across from my desk at Butanaziba Business Center in Kampala.
What You Pay For — And What You Don’t
Your program fee covers the equipment, the training, the legal setup assistance, and my team’s support. That’s a one-time deal. Fair.
But once your operation is running? Once those machines are turning, water is pumping, gold is coming out of your sluice? From that moment forward, the day-to-day costs of running a mine fall on you.
That means:
- Fuel and energy — diesel for your generator, petrol for pumps, whatever powers your site
- Food for staff — hungry miners don’t work. Period.
- Staff salaries — site manager, security, assistaant, kitchen. You hire them, you pay them.
- Staff accommodation — village rooms, beds, basic shelter for your crew
- Transport — moving equipment, supplies, people, and eventually your gold
- Communication — phone credit, internet, staying in touch with me and your team
- Anything you agree with any third party — land access, local partnerships, community arrangements. Those are your deals, not mine.
And most importantly for this page: maintenance and wear parts.
Machines Eat Parts. That’s Just Mining.
Every machine you run will need love. Parts wear out. Hammers get blunt. Belts snap. Bearings dry up. That is not a defect. That is physics.
You wouldn’t drive a car for five years without changing the oil, replacing the tires, or swapping the brake pads. Same thing with crushers, mills, pumps, and generators.
I build these SYOGM ( Start Your Own Gold Mine) systems to be tough. They are tested. They are proven. But they are not magical. You must budget for ongoing maintenance just like you budget for fuel and salaries.
Here’s the good news: most wear parts are inexpensive if you plan ahead. A set of hammers for your impact mill. A new belt. A bucket of grease. A log book to track working hours so you know exactly when to service each machine.
The bad news? If you ignore maintenance, the machine will stop. And a stopped machine makes zero gold.
The Honest Truth From Louis
I’ve been in the Ugandan mining sector for many years. I’ve seen clients succeed brilliantly because they treated their equipment with respect, kept log books, and planned for wear parts. I’ve also seen clients fail because they spent everything on the program fee and had nothing left for a simple set of hammers or a replacement belt.
Don’t be that guy.
Before you start, make sure you have operating cash aside from your program fee. For The Hard Rock Express and Basic programs, that means roughly $8,000 to $10,000 set aside for six months of operating expenses including maintenance. For The Full program at $66,000, you need more — talk to me directly and I’ll help you budget.
This page exists because I want you to succeed. Not just to start, but to keep running, keep producing, and keep owning your gold.
Now, below is the complete table of every machine in our programs and the wear parts, maintenance items, and consumables you will eventually need to replace.
Read it carefully. Bookmark it. Print it out and hang it in your office or container.
And when you have questions? You know my number.

The Basic Start Your Own Gold Mine Program is a standalone, turnkey startup solution for entrepreneurs in East Africa (primarily Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya) seeking to launch a small-scale gold mining operation with predictable upfront costs and clear ownership. For a one-time service fee of $22,000 USD paid in advance, clients receive new, modular, client-owned processing equipment, comprehensive training, and ongoing remote technical support. In return, the client shares only the first two kilograms of gold recovered with the provider; after this milestone, the client retains 100% ownership of the equipment and all subsequent gold production with no ongoing royalties, equity, or profit shares. The client is responsible for all land access fees, licensing, taxes, transport, staffing, and operational expenses, with initial production targeted within 45 days of payment and on-ground presence. - Full Start Your Own Gold Mine Program: Turnkey Business Launch for East African Entrepreneurs
The Full Start Your Own Gold Mine Program is a custom-built, scalable startup package priced at US $66,000 designed to help serious entrepreneurs launch a comprehensive gold-mining business in East Africa (particularly Uganda). Unlike a simple equipment sale, this program offers a turnkey solution that combines essential mining and mineral-processing machinery, legal setup assistance (including mining licenses and NEMA ESIA environmental certificates), geological surveys, and full operational training with ongoing mentorship. The program is flexible and can be configured into four distinct mining paths: underground hard rock mining, mineral processing site, tailings reprocessing, or alluvial mining, depending on the client's chosen direction, geology, and budget. Payment is split into two stages (50% upfront, 50% after core equipment readiness is evidenced), and while the price covers equipment, training, and licensing fees, clients are responsible for purchasing land, heavy earthmoving equipment (unless separately quoted), drilling, and personal living expenses. - Start Your Own Gold Mine — Business Startup Programs Including Equipment, Training, and Licensing
This guide outlines three distinct "Start Your Own Gold Mine" business startup programs designed for East African entrepreneurs, each tailored to different investment levels, ownership models, and operational ambitions. The Hard Rock Express Program ($22,000) offers the fastest entry (within 45 days) with immediate legal access via local partnerships and 100% ownership from Day 1, ideal for first-time miners seeking low barriers. The Basic Program ($22,000) provides a streamlined, equipment-focused solution with 100% ownership after the first 2kg of gold is produced, appealing to independent entrepreneurs who want full control without ongoing royalties or partnerships. The Full Program ($66,000) is a comprehensive, turnkey business launch for serious investors, including equipment, legal compliance, training, and management systems to build a scalable, professional mining enterprise. All three options emphasize mobile or modular infrastructure, technical support, and the flexibility to choose between hard rock, tailings, or alluvial mining paths, with contact details provided for a free consultation to match specific capital and vision goals.
