February 26th 2020, Apprentice in the program Start Your Own Gold Mine
The “Start Your Own Gold Mine” (SYOGM) training program had an apprentice from Nigeria who participated in the orientation phase at Kisoro’s camp area. The individual was reported as coping well with their initial activities and learning experiences within this educational initiative aimed to help them start a gold mining operation.
However, due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions that began affecting global travel and gatherings around February 2020 onward (and continuing into the following months), it is likely that these efforts were disrupted or halted. The program may have faced challenges such as:
- Travel Restrictions: Preventing participants from attending in-person training sessions.
- Lockdowns & Quarantines: Forcing closures of camp areas and halting on-site activities.
- Health Concerns: Prioritizing safety measures over continuing with the program.
In summary, while there was initial success for this Nigerian apprentice within SYOGM’s orientation phase in Kisoro (Uganda), COVID-19 likely caused significant disruptions leading to potential failure or delays of their gold mining venture.
