Local miners are naively believing that mercury is the only way to extract gold
It has come to our attention that certain local miners in Uganda are under the mistaken belief that mercury is the only way to extract and recover gold from concentrates. We strongly advise against the use of mercury in gold recovery and will not engage in any practices that involve its use.
All miners are strongly advised to stop using mercury immediately.
Mercury is a dangerous poison and its use in mining activities is severely impacting the environment. Mercury pollutes the water that is consumed by children, adults, and livestock, and its poison is then absorbed by plants, fruits, vegetables, fish, and trees.
Exposure to mercury can cause cancer and other dangerous diseases.
We urge all miners to prioritize their health and the health of their communities by refraining from the use of mercury in their mining operations.
