The improvized field retort for mercury recovery
This is an improvised field retort designed for mercury recovery. It can be constructed using a pipe reduction connector, a cover, and a section of pipe. The sides should be sealed with soil to prevent mercury fumes from escaping during the burning process.
The output end of the pipe should be submerged in a water cup where all the mercury will be collected. Without water, there is a risk of mercury evaporating into the air.
Mercury is a hazardous substance that can lead to cancer and other serious health issues. It contaminates humans, animals, plants, water sources, and the environment.
In our mining initiative, Start Your Own Gold Mine, we do not use mercury. Instead, we focus on recovering it when necessary and teach miners how to adopt mercury-free methods.
